It was the 28th of March and this date is special. We went for a dip in the water pools of Wadi Bani Khalid and then proceeded to Bidiyah which is famous for its sand dunes. Here is our story:
The Journey
We have just been to Wadi Bani Khalid and we want to make the most of our day. So together with the Solanos and Dr. Saji, we drove to the wilayat of Bidiyah to the dunes. Along the way we saw an interesting looking building which happened to be the Bidiyah Museum. We parked our car, paid the one riyal (about $2.6) entrance fee and went on to explore and see the museum’s exhibit.
The first objects that got my attention are the antique weapons. This got me into thinking if there was ever a day when the Omani people had the need to use these weapons. The people that I have met in this country so far are peace-loving and friendly people.
We saw a lot of other intetesting stuff inside like these ancient cooking wares and a diorama of a typical Omani living room.
The lady guard inside the museum does not look very strict. But make no mistake, her greatest weapon is her smile, and that smile almost knocked me out :).
We went out the back door of the building and we discovered that there is a new building there. This seems to be really new and here are the stuff that we saw inside.
Outside the second building we noticed a miniature boat that is under construction as well as antique doors with intricate trademark Arabic carvings.
Overall, I believe that our money is well spent here. We saw evidences of the richness of the Omani’s culture and heritage. Our children had a glimpse of a part of world history and that is priceless.
But this day is not over yet. After viewing the exhibit, we went off to our next destination: the Bidiyah Sand Dunes.
